Koichiro Saito (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST)), successfully synthesized colloidal chiral nanoparticles by depositing silver on the surface of gold nanoparticles dispersed in a solution using circularly polarized light. Depending on the handedness and wavelength of the circularly polarized light, the chiral nanoparticles exhibited chirality inversion and spectral change in circular dichroism. These results will lead to the development of techniques for manipulating nanomaterials using circularly polarized light.
