The group led by Assistant Professor Ryusei Oketani (Publicly offered research C) from the Graduate School of Engineering Science at Osaka University has achieved deracemization by crystallization of a primary amine, which are used as a pharmaceutical intermediate. By utilizing an iridium catalyst, they successfully combined the racemization of the amine in solution with crystallization. There are expectations for the development of racemization reactions using iridium based photocatalyt and chirality control through interactions with light.
