Prof. Takuya Nakashima investigated the effect of chiral ligand coordination on the deracemization of intrinsically chiral gold clusters. The coordination of single chiral ligand was found to effectively induce the chiral distortion of gold atom arrangement in the chiral/achiral mixed-ligand gold clusters. The chiral orientation and distortion of chiral ligand were successfully transferred to achiral ligands, thus demonstrating “sergeants-and-soldiers principle” in the synthesis of chiral gold clusters.
