The group led by Professor Kohei Imura (Waseda University) visualized chiral optical field around a gold nanoplate using a scanning near-field optical microscope and revealed that their spatial characters are closely related to plasmonic standing waves excited in the nanoplate. Chiral and optical field exhibit different three-dimensional characteristics, and their physical origins are revealed by theoretical calculations. These findings provide detailed insight into the plasmon-enhanced chiral field and a fundamental basis for the highly sensitive detection of chiral molecules.
