The research group led by Associate Professor Yosuke Minowa from the Department of Physics, Kyoto University (Planned Research C02), has demonstrated the direct and controlled excitation of helical Kelvin waves on quantized vortices in superfluid helium. The group also achieved three-dimensional visualization of the helically oscillating vortex cores. This breakthrough opens up a new paradigm for the manipulation of quantized vortices in superfluid helium.
The results were published in the academic journal Nature Physics on January 13, 2025.
